For 2015, each month the DAMQG members will create a block that will be included in a quilt for charity. We have a chairperson that selects a different block pattern and color scheme each month. By the end of the year, we will have at least 11 quilts. Each month, someone will volunteer to put the blocks together and we have a resident long armer who will do the quilting. Below is the block I created for January. Some members created more than one block. We had some many blocks that they may have to create 2 quilts.
As posted by Diva Dane, we participated in the MQG QuiltCon Charity Project where our DAMQG group quilt will be displayed at QuiltCon and then we will donate the quilt to charity when the show is over.
One of our fellow DAM Girls (what we call a DAMQG member) son has inherited her crafty spirit and giving heart. They both were featured on a local news segment “Live in the D”. He and his friends created a small business PWR:Power Detroit where they use beads from all around the world to make bracelets. They were recently picked up by a local store to have their bracelets sold in the store. What’s really great is that part of the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish foundation. Here is a link to the story – Live in the D:PWR Beads.
Until next time…….
